Admission Requirements for Professional Schools


The requirements for a major in Microbiology are virtually the same as those which will qualify students to apply to Medical, Dental and Veterinary School. Requirements for entrance to all three professional schools vary somewhat, but the most important courses for each are listed below.

Medical School

  (1 year - statistics highly recommended)

*Ohio State also requires a semester of Biochemistry (CHM 332 or 432) and a semester of Anatomy (BIO 201).
†Ohio State has approved the use of MBI 121/123 as a substitute for MBI 115 when completing the MBI major.

Veterinary School

The requirements for admission to Veterinary School are less uniform than those for Medical School. Experience in the following courses is, however, highly desirable.

For specific requirements for each medical school you are encouraged to look at the website of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges.

Dental School

Although requirements for admission differ somewhat from school to school, the following basic requirements are fairly typical:
